As you play Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord your character will level up and you will be given the option to invest focus points into certain skills and raise attributes.
Your skills will also go up as you use them in the game and at certain levels you’ll be given the option to pick perks.
As you play, you may realize that you should’ve picked a different perk, or maybe not put so many focus points into smithing. Maybe you realized you’d rather use two-handed weapons than one-handed.
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Update November 19, 2020 is now available on Steam. November Update Patch Notes 11/19. Fixed the issue of some faction troops looking older and plump. You can export your character (click in the character menu on statistics), then edit a textdocument in your document folder: documents/Mount&BladeWarband (not sure where the place is). The name should be the name of your character. There you can change the skills and stats or give yourself more skillpoints.
Whatever the case may be, there is only one way to respec or reset your character in Bannerlord.
Here is a complete step-by-step guide on how to do it! Note that there is currently no ‘natural’ in-game way to do it and it will require the use of cheats.
Since there are no achievements in Bannerlord currently, you won’t have to worry about barring yourself from achieving them if you decide to respec your character this way in Bannerlord. If you’re looking for more Bannerlord guides, check out these!
NOTE: Do this on a separate save in case you mess up and need to start again. Make sure you create a separate in-game save before following this guide. We would hate for you to lose all of your progress.
Step 1. Activate Cheats in Bannerlord
This is fairly simple. All you need to do is turn a 0 into a 1 in a config file. Navigate to your Documents folder on your PC
Go into the folder titled Mount and Blade II Bannerlord
Next enter the folder called Configs
Inside that folder will be a file called ‘engine_config.txt’ Open it up with notepad
Using CTRL+F search for ‘cheat_mode’. It should highlight it.
We need the 0 at the end of this line to be a 1. Simply delete the 0 and put a 1 in it’s place.
Now you’ve activated cheats, congratulations! If you want to turn off cheats after this guide, simply change the 1 back to a 0.
Step 2. Download the Developer Console Module
The developer console does not activate when you activate cheats, but you need cheats activated to use the console.
With that being said, head on over to Nexusmods using this link and download the Developer Console mod.
It’s super easy to install. There are instructions on that page as well, but all you have to do is download and extract the zip file to C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonMount & Blade II BannerlordModules.
Once you’ve done that launch Bannerlord, but before you click ‘Play’ click the mods tab at the top below the Multiplayer tab and activate Developer Console.
If you do not see Developer Console here you have extracted the zip to the wrong location or have not extracted it at all.
Step 3. Memorize Your Character’s Stats Before You Respec
This is important. If you want your character to have exactly the same skill levels as before, the same amount of focus points, level and everything else you need to either screenshot your character page or write it all down!
Step 4. Using the Console to Reset and Respec your Character
Okay, once you’ve completed the above steps you are almost finished. Now it’s time to respec your character in Bannerlord.
Load up your save and once in game press CTRL + ~ key. This will open up the command console in game.
Once in the command console type the following commands in the order they appear. It’s important to follow the same order as they are listed!
- campaign.reset_player_skills_level_and_perks
- This removes all levels and perks, essentially resetting your character.
- campaign.set_skill_main_hero [name of skill] [lvl#]
- This command will change your skills to the skill level they were before you reset them using the above command. This is why you saved a screenshot or wrote down all of your skill levels. Use this command for all of the skills.
- campaign.add_skill_xp_to_hero
- This command adds a skill point to your hero resetting the character’s level back to what it was before you reset it. You can also just gain a skill level in-game and your level will refresh.
- campaign.add_attribute_points_to_hero [add number]
- You may have some attribute points after your character’s level refreshes. Find out how many you are missing and add that amount to your character.
- campaign.add_focus_points_to_hero [add number]
- You may have some focus points after your character’s level refreshes. Find out how many you are missing and add that amount to your character.
There’s How to Respec Your Character in Bannerlord
And that’s it! Congratulations, you’ve respec’d your character in Bannerlord successfully if you followed our guide.
There are a ton of other cool console commands you can mess around with and the cheats can be fun as well. We suggest messing around with them on another save however if you don’t want to alter your main game.
We hope you found this guide useful on your quest to conquer Calradia.
Mount & Blade: Warband, the stand alone expansion to the action RPG Mount & Blade, has gained some serious attention from players since its launch. And, the game is showing no signs of slowing down. If you are new to Mount & Blade: Warband and want to improve your skills, check out the ten tips provided below.
1. Recruit Lords
There is an upside and a downside to recruiting lords. However, it is almost always worthwhile to recruit them rather than ignore them.
Recruiting lords to your cause will greatly increase your chance to achieve victory. More allies means more power. That being said, you will have to give some of your lands to your lords if you want to keep them happy. Consequently, recruiting lords can be a costly endeavor.
Still, you should try bolstering your allies if you are finding things a little too difficult.
2. Don’t Elope
Marriage is complicated and the consequences can be dire. If you don’t seek permission from the family before courting the bride to be, then you’ll have to elope.
If you elope you’ll become enemies with her relatives, including her father. The proper way to do it is to build favor with her relatives and then court her with visits, poetry and tournament wins.
If you’re not of noble birth, you’ll need to grind to get into the feasts to even introduce yourself to these characters. That is only for males though.
Females simply need to find the lord they wish to marry and request to cement the alliance to their house. You’re not going to do this early in the game, as it requires building relationships with your future in-game husband. Do note that doing so will grant you vassalage in the faction he’s affiliated. That involves too large of a mechanic to discuss here, but it basically means you get their poorest village and their friends and enemies.
3. Control Your Troops
It seems obvious, but it is still a critically important tip. When you begin warring around within Mount & Blade: Warband, do not let your troops rush in chaotically. You are going to want to reign them in and order them accordingly. Otherwise, your enemy will easily be able to take advantage of the chaos and overwhelm your troops.
Once battle begins, double tap F1 to order your troops to halt. Then, press the backspace button to pull up the order interface. From there, you can delegate your troops to your will. You can move troops to advantageous areas on the map, or you can split them apart to form a pincer movement against your enemies. Whatever the situation calls for, make sure to take advantage of the command options to ensure your victory.
4. You Are Not Using the Lance Enough
Experience in Mount & Blade: Warband is based on damage dealt. Consequently, you are going to want to fight enemies from horseback. The boosted speed from the horse will help boost your damage.
To fully utilize fighting from horseback, you are going to want to use the lance early on. This weapon is one of the easier ones to use and will get you a bevy of kills early on in the game. After you’ve earned some experience, you can upgrade from the lance into something more your own style.
5. Want to Speed Up the Map? Don’t Worry. You Totally Can.
The map in Mount & Blade: Warband moves at a brutally slow pace. If you don’t want the map to eat up a chunk of your playtime, then you are going to want to listen up.
![Skills Skills](/uploads/1/1/9/8/119875656/294827332.jpg)
Many players will go hours and hours playing Mount & Blade: Warband without realizing that you can speed up the map. Luckily, it’s quite easy. The only thing you need to do is hold the Control and Space Bar buttons simultaneously. This will speed things up wonderfully.
6. Need More Renown? Hunt Down Bandit Gangs
Renown is incredibly important in this game. Consequently, you are going to want to remain in high supply at all times.
One way to earn Renown is to win lopsided battles that are not in your favor. This sounds difficult, but it is not always the case.
Grab your horse and lance. Then, go riding. Track down a group of bandits and begin circling them. Circle the bandit gang from far enough away that you can avoid taking damage from their archers, but close enough that the archers will try to hit you.
Keep circling around the bandits until the archers run out of arrows. Then, start picking off the bandits one by one with your lance. Simply rush in and strike a single bandit. Ride away and circle back. Then, rinse and repeat.

This process can seem tedious, but is an easy way to gain Renown. After some practice, it will likely only take a few minutes to wipe out a small bandit gang.
7. Keep Your Morale Up
Download Mount And Blade
Moral effects a number of things, including your soldiers’ likelihood that they will stand their ground in battle and your speed. If your morale gets too low, then your troops will desert you.
Once again, this is a factor that generally doesn’t go noticed until it is already too late. Boost your morale by providing a greater variety of food to your fiefdom and by winning battles for your people. Beyond that, make sure your companions are compatible with each other. If not, your companions can quickly tank your morality score.
8. Get Your Strength Up First
If you want to unlock high quality armor and weapons in the late-game, then you are going to need to meet each item’s strength minimum. In order to unlock all of the armor in the game and several high quality weapons, you will need to have nine strength. Make sure to get your strength score up so you can take advantage of all the game’s awesome loot.
9. Check Your Controversy Score
You will make several decisions along the way while playing this game. Some of those decisions will be considered controversial. The more of these decisions you make, the higher your Controversy score will rise. Once your Controversy score becomes too high, other factions will grow increasingly hostile towards you.
At first, this score may seem irrelevant, as it only really comes into effect once it’s too late. Be proactive by regularly checking your score to make sure it doesn’t reach critical mass.
10. Keep Up Appearances Before Establishing Your Own Faction
There are three values you need to keep in mind before establishing your own faction, being Renown, Honor and Right to Rule. If any of these values are too low when you establish your new faction, then other rulers will classify you as a rebel force. This will lead to overwhelming conflict.
Try to boost these values to 50 before establishing your faction in order to avoid excessive conflict.
